CrashPlan is an endpoint backup service designed for small and mid-sized businesses, distributed teams, IT admins, legal firms, and education customers that need to protect Windows, macOS, and Linux laptops against ransomware, device loss, hardware failure, and accidental deletion. The product runs a lightweight desktop agent that continuously backs up user files to CrashPlan's cloud with AES-256 encryption in transit and at rest, versioned history, unlimited retention on the Professional plan, and selectable data-residency regions. An admin console lets IT teams push policies, manage device enrollments, track backup status across the fleet, and perform restores on behalf of users.

Buyers tend to be MSPs, internal IT at firms with 10-500 endpoints, solo professionals who want serious versioning, and knowledge workers who had been using CrashPlan Home before Code42 retired that tier and spun the SMB and enterprise lines into what is now an independent CrashPlan company (sold by Mill Point Capital in 2022). Typical affiliate content positions CrashPlan against Backblaze Business Backup, Carbonite Safe, and Acronis Cyber Protect on per-device pricing, restore speed, and retention policy. Price hooks start around USD 10 per device per month for the Professional plan, with volume discounts at 50+ devices. The product ships as cloud-only today; the older on-premise storage vault is no longer sold to new customers.

CrashPlan launched its current commission-based affiliate program in September 2024 and runs it directly rather than through CJ, Impact, or PartnerStack. Applicants fill in the affiliate signup form at crashplan.com/company/partners/affiliate-program/, share website or audience details, and once approved get a logo pack, banners, and a unique promo code that tracks attribution. The promo code gives the referred customer 10% off a new 1-year or 2-year CrashPlan Professional subscription, which is the main conversion hook for publishers covering backup, IT operations, or security.

Commission is a flat 7% of the sale on every order placed with that code, with no tiering based on volume. Because tracking is code-based rather than cookie-based, there is no explicit click-to-signup window; the customer simply enters the promo code at checkout. Commissions settle on a monthly cadence per the program one-pager, paid via bank transfer or PayPal; CrashPlan has not published a hard minimum payout threshold. Renewals, seat upgrades, and multi-year purchases from the referred account do count toward the original affiliate for the initial transaction, but recurring commissions on auto-renewals are not advertised. The separate CrashPlan Channel Partner Program (for MSPs and resellers with deal registration) is distinct and not the publisher affiliate route.
